Connecting Continents with 5G: Türkiye’s 5G Development Consortium Achieves Historic Milestone
On December 16, 2020, members of Türkiye’s End-to-End 5G Development Consortium (HTK), including major Turkish mobile operators Türk Telekom, Turkcell, and Vodafone TR, reached an extraordinary milestone in 5G technology. The consortium successfully demonstrated a fully operational 5G network spanning from Istanbul’s Anatolian side to its European side, marking the first instance in history where 5G communication connected two continents.
During this landmark demonstration, seamless 5G communication was enabled across various devices, showcasing the advanced capabilities of Türkiye’s domestically developed 5G infrastructure. This remarkable achievement highlights the technological progress made by the consortium in building a high-performance 5G network that bridges continents and accelerates Türkiye’s digital transformation.
i2i Systems, a key contributor within the consortium, is actively developing the 5G Standalone (SA) Core Network and 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) Baseband Unit, both essential for supporting the full capabilities of 5G connectivity. This project exemplifies Türkiye’s commitment to pioneering next-generation mobile networks and reaffirms i2i Systems’ role in advancing cutting-edge solutions that drive innovation in the global telecom industry.
